A pickleball court is 13.41 m long and 6.10 m wide (44 ft by 20 ft). That’s the same size for singles and doubles, and it’s within about a centimetre of a badminton doubles court. So yes, a pickleball court fits on a badminton court, and many courts here are marked out on one. What doesn’t carry over is the net, the kitchen line and, often, the space around the court.

All pickleball figures below come from Section 3 of the 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook. The UPA-A rulebook used for PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball events gives the same court and net sizes. Badminton figures come from the BWF Laws of Badminton.

Pickleball court dimensions at a glance

Each service court’s width 3.05 m 10 ft 3.A, Figure 3-1
Line width 5.08 cm 2 in 3.A.4.e
Net height at the sidelines 91.44 cm 36 in 3.B.6
Net height at the centre 86.36 cm 34 in 3.B.7
Distance between net posts (inside to inside) 6.71 m 22 ft 3.B.2
Minimum total playing area 9.14 m × 18.29 m 30 ft × 60 ft 3.A.3
Recommended playing area (new courts, tournaments) 10.36 m × 19.5 m 34 ft × 64 ft 3.A.3

Measurements are taken to the outside edge of the boundary and kitchen lines (3.A.2), so the lines are part of the court. A ball that lands on a sideline or baseline is in.

Why the net is lower at the centre

The net is 91.44 cm at the sidelines and dips to 86.36 cm at the centre, a 5 cm sag that’s built into the rule (3.B.6, 3.B.7). Courts often use a centre strap to pull the middle down to the right height (3.B.5).

Note that the 91.44 cm is measured where the net crosses the sideline, not at the post. The posts sit outside the court: 6.71 m apart, inside edge to inside edge (3.B.2), so each post is about 30 cm outside its sideline.

Pickleball vs badminton court: the numbers side by side

Pickleball Badminton (doubles)
Length 13.41 m (44 ft) 13.40 m
Width 6.10 m (20 ft) 6.10 m
Line width 5.08 cm 4 cm
Lines count as in Yes Yes
Net height at centre 86.36 cm 1.524 m
Net height at sidelines 91.44 cm 1.55 m
Posts About 30 cm outside the sidelines On the doubles sidelines
Zone near the net Kitchen line 2.13 m from the net Short service line 1.98 m from the net
Other lines Centre line only Singles sidelines, doubles long service line, centre line

Converted exactly, 44 ft is 13.411 m and 20 ft is 6.096 m. So against a badminton court, a pickleball court is about 1 cm longer and 4 mm narrower. On a painted floor, that’s less than the width of a line.

How a pickleball court sits on a badminton court

Because the outside boundary is almost identical, a dual-use court can share the badminton doubles boundary. What changes:

  1. The kitchen line is about 15 cm further from the net than badminton’s short service line (2.13 m against 1.98 m). Badminton players should watch for this. The line you’re used to isn’t the one that counts.
  2. The centre line is shared. Both sports have a centre line from the front line to the baseline, splitting the left and right service courts.
  3. Badminton’s extra lines are ignored. The singles sidelines and the doubles long service line near the back don’t mean anything in pickleball. A ball landing between the singles and doubles sidelines is in.
  4. The net has to change. A badminton net is about 66 cm higher at the centre, far too high for pickleball. A dual-use court needs a pickleball-height net, such as a portable net on its own frame.

On a dual-use court, the pickleball lines are drawn alongside the badminton ones. In Singapore, for example, existing indoor badminton courts at community clubs have had pickleball lines drawn to allow dual use, according to a speech in Parliament on 5 March 2026. In Malaysia, booking platform Courtsite has written about venues doubling as pickleball courts to meet demand.

The space around the court matters too

The court itself fits, but the rulebook asks for more room around it than many badminton halls give. The minimum playing area is 9.14 m by 18.29 m (3.A.3), which leaves about 1.5 m beside each sideline and about 2.4 m behind each baseline. For new courts and tournaments the recommendation is 10.36 m by 19.5 m.

When a pickleball court is marked on a badminton court, the space around it is whatever the hall was built with, and that can be less than the pickleball minimum. In pickleball you’ll chase lobs and wide balls off the court, so if the courts sit close together, take care around the edges, and watch the ceiling too: a ball that hits a roof beam or light before landing is a fault against the player who hit it (10.C.4).

Quick answers

Is a pickleball court the same size as a badminton court? Almost. Pickleball is 13.41 m × 6.10 m, and badminton doubles is 13.40 m × 6.10 m. The difference is about a centimetre.

Is the singles court smaller? No. Singles and doubles use the full 6.10 m width (3.A.1). Badminton is different: its singles court is narrower.

How big is the kitchen? 2.13 m deep and the full 6.10 m wide, on each side of the net (3.A.4.c). The kitchen line itself is part of the kitchen.

How high is the net? 91.44 cm at the sidelines and 86.36 cm in the centre.

For what each line means during a game, see our guide to pickleball rules, and for the zone by the net, the kitchen rule.
